
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Ben Zobrist hit a grand slam homer Friday, Cliff Floyd drove in five runs and the Tampa Bay Rays stormed past Baltimore 14-3.
The Rays ensured they will have the first winning season in franchise history. They won their third straight and remained 4 1/2 games in front of Boston at the top of the AL East.
Tampa Bay recorded 15 hits and scored seven times in the fourth to make an easy winner of Scott Kazmir (11-6), who allowed three hits and no runs over 5 1/3 innings.
Zobrist's grand slam was part of the big fourth inning. Floyd doubled in a run in the first, drew a bases-loaded walk in the second, doubled in two more in the fourth before scoring on Zobrist's homer and delivered a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Tampa Bay built a 13-0 lead through six innings.
Jeremy Guthrie (10-12) took the loss, allowing seven hits and seven runs while walking six in three innings.
