MLB: Tampa Bay 3, Toronto 2

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Edwin Jackson gave up only one run and six hits in seven innings Thursday to lead the Tampa Bay Rays to a 3-2 win over Toronto.

Jackson (11-8) was not overpowering, with two walks and two strikeouts, but held Toronto in check by throwing 70 of his 106 pitches for strikes and inducing 15 fly-ball outs.

Designated hitter Cliff Floyd hit a first-inning sacrifice fly and a third-inning solo homer. One of Willy Aybar's three hits was a sixth-inning solo homer and two other players had two hits each for the AL East-leading Rays, whose lead over Boston increased to 4 ½ games.

Their victory ensured that they would finish above the .500 mark for the first time in franchise history.

Dan Wheeler recorded his 10th save.

Toronto's Rod Barajas and Adam Lind had two hits and one RBI apiece. Four others had one hit apiece for the Blue Jays, who have split their last 10 games.

The losing pitcher was starter Jesse Litsch (9-8).
