ST. LOUIS, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Ryan Braun and Bill Hall belted two-run homers, and the Milwaukee Brewers' pitching staff shut down the St. Louis Cardinals in a 12-0 romp Tuesday.

Jason Kendall drove in three runs and Prince Fielder had two RBI as Milwaukee reeled off its fifth straight win to stay within five games of the Chicago Cubs in the National League Central.

Ben Sheets (12-7) gave up five hits and two walks over six innings to match his career-high for wins in a season.

Aaron Miles had two hits for the Cardinals, who are 4 1/2 games behind the Brewers in the hunt for a wild card playoff berth.

Loser Todd Wellemeyer (11-5) gave up five runs -- four earned -- on eight hits in six-plus innings. He had gone 4-0 in his last eight outings.
