
SAN DIEGO, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Jody Gerut's two-run homer with two out in the ninth helped the San Diego Padres snap a seven-game losing streak with a 4-2 win over Arizona Monday night.
Brian Giles had three hits, one RBI and one run scored, and Luis Rodriguez had three hits and an RBI -- and scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the ninth on Gerut's 14th homer of the season. Josh Bard scored a run for the Padres.
Jake Peavy allowed two runs on four hits in six innings with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Trevor Hoffman (2-6) pitched a perfect ninth and got the win.
Chris Snyder drove in both of Arizona's runs with a fourth-inning single that scored Conor Jackson and Mark Reynolds.
Dan Haren started and went seven innings for the Diamondbacks, giving up two runs on nine hits with one walk and 11 strikeouts.
Jon Rauch (4-5) served up the walk-off homer to take the loss for the Diamondbacks, who lost for the third time in seven games.
