
ANAHEIM, Calif., Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Gary Matthews Jr. hit a go-ahead RBI triple in the eighth inning Sunday, helping the Los Angeles Angels top Minnesota 5-3.
With one out in the inning, his second hit of the game broke a 3-3 tie.
Two others had one RBI in the inning. One was Vladimir Guerrero, who also had two hits.
Mark Texeira had three hits, one a sixth-inning, solo homer, for the Angels, who have won three of their last five games.
Winning pitcher Jose Arredondo (6-1) tossed a scoreless eighth. Francisco Rodriguez earned his major league-leading 50th save this season. He is the ninth pitcher ever to record at least 50 saves in a season.
Minnesota's Justin Morneau had three hits, one a sixth-inning, solo homer, and three RBI.
Nick Punto also had three hits and Joe Mauer increased his hitting streak to 16 straight games in the Twins' third loss in their last 11 games.
The losing pitcher was Jesse Crain (5-3).
