KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Mark Teahen hit a key two-run double Sunday to help Kansas City end its seven-game losing streak with a 7-3 win over Detroit.

The hit came with one out in the inning and increased the winners' lead to the final score.

Jose Guillen hit a solo, second-inning homer. Three others had one RBI.

A run scored on Placido Polanco's second-inning error.

Alberto Callaspo went 3-for-3 and the Royals averted a three-game sweep.

Winning pitcher Brandon Duckworth (1-0) yielded three earned runs and seven hits in seven innings. He started after the Royals bought his contract from Class AAA Omaha before the game.

In a non-save situation, closer Joakim Soria pitched a 1-2-3 ninth.

Polanco led Detroit with three hits and two RBI.

Magglio Ordonez knocked in a run, while both Carlos Guillen and Marcus Thames went 2 for 4 for the Tigers, who are 6-4 in their last 10 contests.
