
ARLINGTON, Texas, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Jamey Carroll's eighth-inning RBI single Saturday night gave the Cleveland Indians an 8-7 win over the Texas Rangers, their sixth win in a row.
Carroll drove in the winning run while batting for Andy Marte with one out in the top of the eighth. Kelly Shoppach's second hit, a three-run homer, had created a 7-7 tie with two outs in the fifth.
Ryan Garko had two hits and two RBI. Two others had one RBI, while the Indians' Grady Sizemore added two hits.
The winner was Rafael Perez (3-3).
Jensen Lewis earned his sixth save by striking out the side in the bottom of the ninth.
Texas' Michael Young had two hits, one a fourth-inning two-run homer, and three RBI. Gerald Laird had two hits and two RBI. Two others had one RBI and Joaquin Arias had two hits for the Rangers, losers of five of their last six games.
The losing pitcher was Jamey Wright (6-5).
The game was held up by a 70-minute rain delay.
