Danny Lee wins U.S. amateur golf title

PINEHURST, N.C., Aug. 24 (UPI) -- New Zealander Danny Lee unleashed a birdie barrage Sunday and defeated Florida State University player Drew Kittleson for the U.S. Amateur Championship.

The 18-year-old Lee won 5 and 4 at the Pinehurst (N.C.) Resort and Country Club. Lee carded 13 birdies in 32 holes of the match, which was scheduled for 36.

"It's like I'm in dreamland," Lee said after his win.

Lee became the youngest winner of the amateur event. Tiger Woods was six months older than Lee when he won the first of three straight amateur championships in 1995.
