
ST. LOUIS, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Greg Norton hit a go-ahead eighth-inning two-run single Saturday to lead the Atlanta Braves to an 8-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
With the contest tied 3-3 and two outs in the top of the eighth, Norton -- batting for reliever and winning pitcher Buddy Carlyle (1-0) -- put the Braves up 5-3.
Atlanta scored three more runs in the ninth following a 49-minute rain delay.
Martin Prado had three hits and two RBI. Jeff Francoeur's only hit was a two-run ninth-inning single and Chipper Jones had two hits and one RBI as the Braves stopped a six-game losing streak.
Mike Gonzalez recorded his sixth save.
St. Louis' Albert Pujols had three hits, including a fifth-inning solo homer, and three RBI. Felipe Lopez had one RBI.
Yadier Molina had two hits while six others had one hit each for the Cardinals, who had won two in a row.
The losing pitcher was reliever Kyle McClellan (2-6).
