
PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Chris Coste had a three-run homer and an RBI single Friday, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to an 8-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Ryan Howard belted a two-run fourth inning homer, Chase Utley hit a solo shot in the seventh and Greg Dobbs added two hits for the Phillies, who remained 2 ½ game back of the NL East-leading New York Mets.
Winning pitcher Kyle Kendrick (11-7) allowed an earned run and three hits in 5 2/3 innings.
LA's Andre Ethier hit a solo homer in the top of the first. James Loney had three of the five hits for the Dodgers, losers of six of their last 10 games.
Losing pitcher Greg Maddux (6-10) was charged with seven earned runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings.
LA fell 2 ½ games back of first-place Arizona in the NL West.
