MLB: Oakland 2, Seattle 0

SEATTLE, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Emil Brown homered and Carlos Gonzalez singled in a run for Oakland Thursday in a 2-0 win over the Seattle Mariners, who have lost seven straight games.

Left-hander Greg Smith (6-12) got the win, allowing four hits over six innings. Joey Devine followed, pitching the seventh, and Brad Ziegler worked the final two innings to earn his fourth save.

Brown hit his home run off Ryan Rowland-Smith in the sixth inning and Gonzalez drove in Eric Patterson with a hit to center field in the ninth.

Rowland-Smith (2-2) took the loss.
