
BALTIMORE, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Bobby Abreu went 5-for-5 with one RBI Friday, leading the New York Yankees to a 9-4 win over Baltimore.
One of Robinson Cano's two hits was a fifth-inning solo homer. Jose Molina hit a solo homer in the second.
In the ninth, Cody Ransom hit a three-run homer and Xavier Nady added a solo shot.
Three players had two hits each for the Yankees, who won for the second time in three games to remain six games back of Boston for the AL wild card.
The winner was Jose Veras (4-2) in relief of New York starter Mike Mussina.
Baltimore's Ramon Hernandez hit a two-run fourth-inning homer. Aubrey Huff hit a pair of RBI singles and Kevin Millar had two hits for the Orioles, losers of three of their last four games.
The losing pitcher was reliever Jamie Walker (1-1) after starter Radhames Liz yielded three earned runs and nine hits in 4 2/3 innings.
