KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Miguel Cabrera slugged two home runs for the Detroit Tigers Friday in a 4-3 win over the Kansas City Royals, who have lost six straight games.
Cabrera hit a leadoff homer to center field in the second inning and added another solo shot in the sixth.
Placido Polanco doubled in a run and Matt Joyce had an RBI for Detroit, which has won three of its last four games.
Justin Verlander (10-13) was the winner. Verlander worked 6 2/3 shutout innings, allowing eight hits and striking out six.
Ross Gload had four hits and John Buck was 2-for-4 with a triple and RBI for Kansas City.
Brian Bannister (7-13) pitched eight innings for the Royals, but gave up four runs to take the loss.
