PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Eighth-inning singles by Jesus Flores and Austin Kearns Thursday gave Washington a 4-3 win over Philadelphia, ending the Nationals' 12-game losing streak.
Kearns' hit with one out in the rally snapped a 3-3 tie. Anderson Hernandez had two hits and one RBI, two others had two hits apiece, and one run scored on Chase Utley's sixth-inning throwing error for the Nationals, who had not won since a beating Colorado 6-3 Aug. 7.
The winner was Saul Rivera (4-5).
Joel Hanrahan earned his fourth save despite putting the tying run on base in the bottom of the ninth.
Philadelphia's Carlos Ruiz hit a solo homer in the seventh for a 3-2 lead. Utley had two hits and one RBI.
Greg Dobbs hit a seventh-inning RBI groundout and, like Utley, Shane Victorino had two hits for the Phillies, whose three-game winning streak ended.
The losing pitcher was reliever Ryan Madson (3-2).
