Chakvetadze eases into semifinals

NEW HAVEN, Conn., Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Anna Chakvetadze of Russia, the top-seed, won in straight sets Thursday to reach the semifinals of the Pilot Pen Tennis tournament in New Haven, Conn.

Chakvetadze scored a 6-3, 6-3 win over Sorana Cirstea of Romania.

France's seventh-seeded Alize Cornet took out the event's No. 2 seed, Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia,3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Unseeded Amelie Mauresmo of France beat fourth-seeded Agnes Szavay of Hungary 6-4, 7-5.

In another surprise, Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki eliminated third-seeded Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli 6-4, 6-0.

Chakvetadze goes against Mauresmo and Cornet takes on Wozniacki in the semifinals.
