WASHINGTON, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- American University Thursday announced the signing of men's basketball Coach Jeff Jones to a new contract.

Details were not provided, but Athletic Director Keith Gill said the contract assures that Jones "will be an Eagle for a long time."

Jones led the Washington school to the Patriot League title and its first appearance in the NCAA Division 1 Tournament last season.

"I am very proud to stand up here today as the head coach of American University's men's basketball team," Jones said after his contract was announced. "I very much look forward to continuing to build a winning tradition here."
