MLB: N.Y. Yankees 5, Toronto 1

TORONTO, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Derek Jeter's three hits and two RBI Wednesday keyed the New York Yankees' 5-1 victory against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The veteran shortstop's RBI came on a two out homer in the top of the fourth inning.

Xavier Nady had two hits and one RBI and two others knocked in one run.

Johnny Damon added two hits for the Yankees, who had lost seven of 10 and fallen 6 1/2 games behind the rival Boston Red Sox for the lead in the AL wild card standings.

Winner Andy Pettitte (13-9) gave up an earned run and five hits in seven innings.

Toronto averted a shutout on Alex Rios' sixth inning RBI single.

Four others had one hit for the Blue Jays, whose three-game winning streak ended.

Losing pitcher David Purcey (2-4) surrendered five earned runs and seven hits in four innings.
