
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Eli Manning and Domenik Hixon connected on two first-quarter touchdown passes Monday night and the New York Giants beat Cleveland 37-34 in a pre-season game.
The defending Super Bowl champion Giants had to hang on for the victory when the Browns scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to get within three.
Manning was 4-for-7 passing for 52 yards and the two scoring strikes to Hixon -- who also returned a kickoff 82 yards for a score. Danny Ware gained 97 yards on 10 rushes and Ahmad Bradshaw ran for a 1-yard touchdown for New York.
Browns' starting quarterback Derek Anderson was 4-of-10 passing for 20 yards before leaving the game in the second quarter after a hard hit by Osi Umenyiora. Brady Quinn completed 7-of-12 passes for 124 yards and a 44-yeard touchdown pass to Syndric Steptoe, who picked up 80 yards on three catches and scored on a seven-yard run for Cleveland.
Ken Dorsey threw for 143 yards and an eight-yard touchdown strike to Lance Leggett for the Browns.
