MLB: Chicago White Sox 5, Seattle 0

CHICAGO, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Clayton Richard got his first career victory with six shutout innings Tuesday when the Chicago White Sox defeated the Seattle Mariners 5-0.

Richard (1-2) allowed five hits and walked one for Chicago.

Jim Thome and Nick Swisher homered for the White Sox, who have won four straight and seven of their last eight games to remain atop the American League Central by one game over Minnesota.

Felix Hernandez (7-8), who allowed five runs on 11 hits, took the loss for the Mariners, who have lost nine of their last 10 games.

Miguel Cairo, Raul Ibanez and Adrian Beltre each had two hits for Seattle.
