Olympic Medal: W Tennis Singles

BEIJING, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Elena Dementieva of Russia led a sweep by that country of the Olympic gold, silver and bronze medals in women's tennis singles.

Dinara Safina won the silver and Vera Zvonareva the bronze.

It marks the first time since tennis returned as an Olympic sport in 1988 that the same country has won all three medals in the same event.
