MLB: N.Y. Yankees 15, Kansas City 6

NEW YORK, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Alex Rodriguez's three hits and five RBI Sunday led the New York Yankees' 15-6 rout of Kansas City.

The third baseman hit the first of New York's four homers, a three-run blast in the bottom of the first inning, and added two RBI singles.

Xavier Nady hit a solo homer, Jason Giambi belted a grand slam and Cody Ransom hammered a pinch two-run homer while batting for Giambi in the seventh.

Four others had one RBI. Derek Jeter had four hits and scored three times, while three players had two hits in the Yankees' second straight victory.

Winner Mike Mussina (16-7) gave up three earned runs and six hits in six innings with three walks and five strikeouts.

Kansas City's Billy Butler and Ross Gload both had two RBI, with Gload hitting a two-run homer in the ninth.

Alex Gordon and Mike Aviles had one RBI each and two players had two hits for the Royals, who have dropped five of six.
