Olympic Medal: M Swim 1500 Free

BEIJING, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Oussama Mellouli of Tunisia won the Olympic gold medal Sunday in the men's 1,500-meter freestyle in Beijing.

Mellouli, who trains in Los Angeles, became the first Olympic swimming medalist ever from Tunisia.

Grant Hackett of Australia settled for the silver. The bronze went to Ryan Cochrane of Canada.

Hackett was trying to become the first swimmer in Olympic history to win the same event in three straight Games.
