MLB: N.Y. Yankees 3, Kan. City 2 (13 inn.)

NEW YORK, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Brett Gardner's 13th-inning RBI single Saturday helped the New York Yankees beat Kansas City 3-2.

Gardner's third hit in the contest scored Robinson Cano from third base with two outs in the 13th. Cano hit an RBI triple in the seventh and scored a game-tying run on a wild pitch by Royals starter Zack Greinke.

Bobby Abreu and Derek Jeter also had two hits for the Yankees, who had dropped six of their previous seven games.

The winner was David Robertson (3-0).

Kansas City scored on Alex Gordon's second-inning homer and Esteban German''s sixth-inning sacrifice fly. Mitch Maier had three hits, while both David DeJesus and Mark Teahen had two hits for the Royals, losers in eight of 10.

The losing pitcher was Jeff Fulchino (0-1).
