"It was a bad fight, but it's the Olympics," Estrada. "There is no such thing as a bad day at the Olympics."

The only U.S. boxers left to compete for medals are welterweight Demetrius Andrade and heavyweight Deontay Wilder. They will both be in action in the quarterfinal round on Sunday.

Cuba, meanwhile, continued to advance its boxers through the tournament with regularity.

Light-flyweight Andris Laffita Hernandez advanced with a 9-3 win over Khalid Yafai of Britain in the flyweight division, Yampier Hernandez was a 21-3 winner over Georgiy Chygayev of Ukraine in the light-flyweight class and Emilio Correa dispatched Sergiy Derevyanchenko of Ukraine in a middleweight bout 18-4.

Cuba brought 10 boxers to Beijing and only one of them has been eliminated in the first week of the Games.
