BOSTON, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Friday's game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Red Sox in Boston was postponed by rain.

The contest will be made up as part of a day/night doubleheader in Boston Saturday, Sept. 13.

Right-hander Paul Byrd, obtained from Cleveland this week, was due to make his first start for the Red Sox, against Toronto ace Roy Halladay. They were backed up until Saturday.

Boston trailed AL East leader Tampa Bay by three games going into Friday's schedule, but held a three-game lead over Minnesota and a 6 ½-game advantage over the New York Yankees in the battle for the American League wild-card berth.

Toronto is nine games back of the Rays and has not been mathematically eliminated.
