Olympic Medal: W Swim 100 Free

BEIJING, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Britta Steffen of Germany won the Olympic gold medal Friday in the women's 100-meter freestyle in Beijing.

Lisbeth Trickett, who made it into the final only because a Chinese swimmer was disqualified in the semifinals, led until the final few strokes and settled for the silver. The bronze went to Natalie Coughlin of the United States.
