BEIJING, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Michael Phelps won his sixth gold medal of the Beijing Olympics Friday, capturing the 200-meter individual medley.

Phelps broke the world record in the event for the seventh time and won the 12th Olympic gold of his career -- three more than anybody else.

Laszlo Cseh of Hungary took the silver. The bronze went to American Ryan Lochte, who a half hour earlier had won the 200-meter backstroke.
