Mauresmo advances in Ohio hard-court event

MASON, Ohio, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Amelie Mauresmo of France easily advanced to the quarterfinals Thursday in the Western and Southern Financial Group Women's Open in Mason, Ohio.

Mauresmo, a two-time Grand Slam champion and former world No. 1, breezed past Belgian Yanina Wickmayer 6-3, 6-1 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.

Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak, who won her first WTA title in California last month, moved on to the quarters with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Ukrainian Julia Vakulenko. The match lasted only 57 minutes.

Vania King of the United States also reached the quarterfinals, defeating countrywoman Jamea Jackson 6-1, 6-4.
