
OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Carlos Pena and Erick Hinske homered and Ben Zobrist doubled in the go-ahead run Wednesday, powering Tampa Bay to a 3-2 win over the Oakland Athletics.
The win was the Rays' sixth in eight games.
Pena hit his 22nd homer of the year in the first inning. Hinske led off with a solo shot in the second and Zobrist doubled down the left field line in the seventh, scoring Justin Ruggiano.
Starter Andy Sonnanstine (12-6) was the winner, allowing two runs and six hits in six innings, striking out six. Troy Percival earned a save, his 27th of the season.
Eric Patterson drove in both Oakland runs with a single in the fifth inning.
Losing pitcher Justin Duchscherer (10-8) worked 6 1/3 innings, giving up all of the Tampa runs. Duchscherer struck out eight batters.
