Roddick, Del Potro win first-rounders

Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington

WASHINGTON, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Andy Roddick of the United States defeated Ramon Delgado of Paraguay Tuesday in the first round of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington.

Roddick won 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).

Second-seeded Juan Martin Del Potro, who beat Roddick last week in the finals of a tournament in Los Angeles, also advanced. Del Potro, of Argentina, coasted to a 6-2, 6-3 win over American Jesse Levine.

Serbian Viktor Troicki topped Denis Gremelmayr of Germany 6-4, 6-2 and U.S. player Robert Kendrick downed Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 6-3, 7-5.

Other winners included Russian Igor Kunitsyn, Sebastien Grosjean of France, Eduardo Schwank of Argentina and Alejandro Falla of Columbia.
