ATLANTA, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Geovany Soto's three hits and four RBI led the Chicago Cubs to a 10-2 rout of Atlanta Wednesday in the first game of a day-night doubleheader.
The opener was necessary because Tuesday's scheduled contest was postponed by rain.
Soto hit a two-run double in the top of the second and a two-run homer in the ninth. Jim Edmonds launched a two-run third inning homer and finished with three RBI.
Three others knocked in one run each and three had two hits apiece for the NL Central Division-leading Cubs, who improved to 7-2 this season against Atlanta.
Jason Marquis (8-7) gave up two earned runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings, winning his second straight decision after four losses in a row.
Atlanta got one RBI apiece from Omar Infante and Mark Kotsay. Infante had three hits for the Braves, who have lost two of three.
Losing pitcher Charlie Morton (3-6) surrendered four earned runs and four hits in 2 1/3 innings.
