NEW YORK, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- British golfer Luke Donald has undergone surgery on his left wrist and will miss the remainder of the 2008 PGA schedule.
Donald injured the wrist in the final round of the U.S. Open in June. After he hit a drive on the 15th hole at Torrey Pines, he sought medical attention and was unable to finish the round. He tried to rehab the injury but decided to have surgery Monday in New York.
"The injury Luke suffered is not all that uncommon for golfers and baseball players and I'm confident he will make a full recovery with the proper rehabilitation and training," said Dr. Andrew Weiland, who performed the procedure. "I'm extremely pleased with how the surgery went."
Weiland said Donald could begin strengthening exercises in about six weeks and was expected to begin chipping and putting after about three months.
Donald, 30, had three top-10 finishes this year and had won nearly $1.5 million. He's won two tournaments and $12.8 million in his PGA career.
