Haas wins Legg Mason 1st-round match

WASHINGTON, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Fourth-seeded Tommy Haas won his first-round match Monday at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington, topping Rik De Voest 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.

In other first-round action, Bobby Reynolds upset seventh seed Marc Gicquel 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 6-4 and John Isner eliminated eighth-seeded Marcel Granollers 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-1).

In matches featuring unseeded rivals, Donald Young beat Luis Horna 6-3, 6-1; Dudi Sela eliminated Vincent Spadea 7-6 (8-6), 6-3; Somdev Dev Varman dropped Taylor Dent 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 6-1; and Florent Serra ousted Uladzimir Ignatik 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.
