BEIJING, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- American Tyson Gay, who suffered a hamstring injury during the U.S. Olympic trials, said Monday he is fully recovered.
Gay ran the fastest 100 meters in history at the trials, although it won't go into the record book because it was wind-aided, and then pulled up during the running of the 200-meter finals. He is the current world champion in both events but will compete only in the 100 in Beijing.
"My hamstring is 100 percent now," Gay said. "It took about four weeks for it to get fully recovered. I've basically been getting rehab on it and doing some light training in the process."
The men's 100 Olympic final is always one of the highlights of the Games and it will be run Saturday.
Gay will be challenged by Jamaicans Asafa Powell and Usain Bolt. Powell held the world record in the event for three years before Bolt broke it with a 9.72 while beating Gay in New York on May 31. Gay's wind-aided time at the American trials was 9.68.
