HOUSTON, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Ty Wigginton homered and drove in all three Houston runs Monday to carry the Astros to a 3-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
Brandon Backe (7-11) gave up one run on four hits over seven innings to get the win for Houston, which has won five games in a row to reach the .500 mark (59-59) for the first time since June 11 (33-33). Backe also singled and scored a run.
Fred Lewis singled in the lone run for the Giants, who had won six of their previous nine games. Rich Aurilia doubled twice for San Francisco.
Jonathan Sanchez (8-9) took the loss after he allowed two runs on five hits over seven innings. The left-hander is 0-5 over his last seven starts and has not won since June 29.
