Roddick wins easily, gains semis in LA

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Andy Roddick breezed into the semifinals of the Countrywide Classic in Los Angeles Friday with a straight-set win over France's Marc Gicquel.

Roddick won 6-3, 6-1 and fellow American Mardy Fish advanced with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Florent Serra of France.

Also moving into the semis were Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina, a 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 victor over American Amer Delic, and Germany's Denis Gremelmayr, who eliminated Russia's Marat Safin 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
