COMMERCE CITY, Colo., Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Chad Barrett scored the game's only goal Saturday to lead the Toronto FC Reds to a 1-0 Major League Soccer victory over the Colorado Rapids.
The Rapids dominated the first half, out-shooting TFC 10-4, but the Reds scored the only goal in the period and the second half was a scoreless duel.
The losing Rapids were playing at home, had a week off from league play to prepare for the game and had a full compliment of players. TFC (7-8-4) was missing starting defender Marco Velez and starting midfielder Amado Guevara because of red cards earned last week.
Also, injuries to Todd Dunivant, and Laurent Robert kept them out and Marvell Wynne and Maurice Edu are away at the Olympics.
Colorado (6-10-3) widened its shot margin in the second half (21-8) but TFC goalkeeper Greg Sutton made 10 saves in the shutout win.
