ANAHEIM, Calif., Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Vladimir Guerrero's RBI single capped an eight-run eighth inning Saturday when the LA Angels recorded an 11-4 win over the New York Yankees.
Guerrero launched one of four LA homers and drove in two runs. The other homers were hit by Mark Teixeira, Garret Anderson and Mike Napoli.
Five players had two hits in a 14-hit attack while Chone Figgins and Maicer Izturis added one RBI apiece for the Angels, who have won four of their last five games -- and 18 of their last 23 -- and will try for a three-game sweep Sunday.
The winner was Scot Shields (5-3), in relief of Angels starter John Lackey, who allowed three runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and one walk over seven innings.
New York's Alex Rodriguez and Jason Giambi hit back-to-back sixth-inning homers. Johnny Damon had two hits and one RBI and Derek Jeter drove in a run, while Melky Cabrera had three hits in the Yankees' fourth loss in their last five games.
Losing pitcher Edwar Ramirez (3-1) gave up five of LA's eight runs in the bottom of the eighth.
