Roddick reaches quarterfinals in LA

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Andy Roddick coasted to a straight-set victory Thursday to reach the quarterfinals of the Countrywide Classic tournament in Los Angeles.

The U.S. star ousted Serbian Dusan Vemic 6-2, 6-2.

Seventh-seeded Carlos Moya was eliminated by qualifier Amer Delic. The American underdog outlasted the Spanish veteran 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-5).

Argentina's Juan Martin Del Potro, seeded No. 3, beat Italian qualifier Andrea Stoppini 6-4, 6-2 and France's Marc Gicquel downed American Donald Young 6-3, 6-3.
