NFL: New York Jets 24, Cleveland 20

CLEVELAND, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- David Clowney caught four passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns, helping the New York Jets top Cleveland 24-20 Thursday in an NFL pre-season contest.

Clowney's touchdown catches were for 70 and 71 yards. David Lowery ran a punt back 62 yards for another score for the Jets.

New York quarterback Brett Ratliff completed 14 of 20 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns.

Cleveland quarterback Brady Quinn connected on 13 of 17 passes for 133 yards.

Derek Anderson threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Braylon Edwards and Jason Wright carried seven times for 17 yards and a 1-yard touchdown for the Browns.

Off the field, longtime former Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre officially joined the Jets and spoke at a news conference prior to the game. Favre, who had retired and decided to come back, was traded to the Jets late Wednesday.
