PHOENIX, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Charlie Morton pitched seven scoreless innings for the Atlanta Braves Thursday in a 6-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Morton (3-5) threw 97 pitches, 57 for strikes, while the Braves ran up a 6-0 lead.
Arizona got all of its runs in the eighth inning before Braves reliever Mike Gonzalez came in to halt the rally. Gonzalez then pitched the ninth to record his fifth save of the season.
Mark Kotsay hit a solo home run and Yunel Escobar drove in two runs for the Braves.
Mark Reynolds hit a three-run homer during Arizona's eighth-inning surge.
Yusmeiro Petit (1-3) was the losing pitcher, allowing two runs and four hits with six strikeouts in five innings.
