Former marksman to narrate Olympic video

WASHINGTON, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Three-time Olympic military marksman Lones W. Wigger Jr., a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel, will narrate a video at the 2008 games in Beijing.

The American Forces Press Service said in a news release Friday the 70-year-old former two-time Olympic goal medal winner will be the voice for MSNBC's Web video coverage of marksmanship competitions in Beijing, where several Army marksmen are representing the United States.

During a 25-year career, the Montana native competed at the 1964 Games in Tokyo, the 1968 Games in Mexico and the 1972 Games in Munich.

"It was great to make the Olympic team," Wigger said. "You don't think you'll ever be good enough, and then you're able to go the Olympics and actually win, and that's the epitome of everything you ever thought about or dreamed about. The Army gave me that opportunity. I would never have realized anywhere near what I accomplished without that."

Wigger was inducted this year into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame.
