Eagles give Brian Westbrook huge contract

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- The Philadelphia Eagles Friday signed versatile running back Brian Westbrook to a long-term contract but details were not disclosed.

The Philadelphia Inquirer, citing a source close to the negotiations, said Westbrook would be paid $13 million in the first two seasons guaranteed, and then make $21 million over the next three seasons, with escalators based on playoff appearances and individual performance.

The Washington native and third-round pick by the Eagles in the 2002 NFL draft out of Villanova is the league's lone active player with 20 or more touchdowns both rushing and receiving (27 rush, 23 receiving) in his career.

In the 2007 season, the 5-foot-10 inch, 203-pounder, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, led the NFL with a franchise-record 2,104 total yards from scrimmage, and became the first Eagle to gain at least 1,000 rushing yards in back-to-back seasons since Duce Staley (1998-99).
