Phillies acquire reliever Scott Eyre

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- The Philadelphia Phillies Thursday announced the acquisition of veteran relief pitcher Scott Eyre from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for a minor league pitcher.

The 36-year-old Eyre, a left-hander, has been on the disabled list twice with the Cubs this season, appearing in just 19 games. He is 2-0 with a 7.15 ERA in 11.1 innings.

The Cubs got Brian Schlitter from single-A Clearwater. Schlitter was 4-3 with six saves in 34 games for the minor league club.

Eyre has pitched for Texas, the Chicago White Sox, Toronto, San Francisco and the Cubs since he was drafted by the Rangers in 1991. Overall, he is 23-29 with four saves and a 4.42 ERA in 556 games.
