CHICAGO, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- The Chicago White Sox scored four runs -- three on a Nick Swisher home run -- in the bottom of the 14th inning Tuesday and beat the Detroit Tigers 10-8.
The Tigers grabbed an 8-6 lead in the top of the 14th when Placido Polanco launched the first pitch from Matt Thornton over the left field wall with Edgar Renteria aboard.
The White Sox came back against reliever Joel Zumaya (0-1), who took the loss for Detroit. Orlando Cabrera hit a lead-off single, then Carlos Quentin hit a one-out double to right. Cabrera scored on Renteria's fielding error on Jermaine Dye's grounder. With two outs, Swisher smacked a 2-1 fastball over the center-field wall for the win.
Chicago starter Gavin Floyd was tabbed for five runs on eight hits in four-plus innings. Thornton allowed two runs in three innings of relief and Adam Russell (4-0) got the final two outs in the 14th for the win.
Quentin finished 4-for-7 with a solo home run and Paul Konerko added a two-run homer for Chicago. In his new home debut, Ken Griffey Jr. was 1-for-6 with three strikeouts.
Polanco hit a pair of two-run homers and tripled for the Tigers. Ryan Raburn went 4-for-6 and drove in a run, while Curtis Granderson hit a two-run homer to extend his hitting streak to 14 games
