MLB: Toronto 4, Oakland 3

TORONTO, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Kevin Mench hit a game-winning single in the ninth inning Tuesday to give the Toronto Blue Jays a 4-3 victory over the Oakland Athletics.

Rod Barajas had two hits, a run scored and an RBI for the Blue Jays. Adam Lind and Marco Scutaro also had RBI.

Jesse Carlson (4-1) earned the win in relief after holding the A's hitless over two-thirds of an inning. Starter Scott Richmond allowed seven hits and three runs over 5 2/3 innings.

Carlos Gonzalez was 4-for-4 with a pair of runs scored for the Athletics, who have lost eight in a row and 11 of their last 12. Bobby Crosby drove in two runs and Mark Ellis one.

Huston Street (2-5) took the loss after allowing two runs on three hits in the ninth.
