Tommie Harris' wife dies

TORONTO, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Roy Halladay worked eight innings Monday to pitch the Toronto Blue Jays to a 6-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics.
Halladay (13-8) allowed four hits and one run while striking out eight, winning for the fifth time in seven starts.
Matt Stairs had two hits and an RBI and Marco Scutaro, Lyle Overbay, Adam Lind and Brad Wilkerson each drove in a run each for the Blue Jays.
Bobby Crosby's homer was the lone offense for the Athletics, who have lost seven in a row and 10 of 11.
Losing pitcher Sean Gallagher (1-1) allowed five runs on four hits over three innings.
