MONTREAL, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Russian Dinara Safina won her third WTA title of the year Sunday, easily beating Dominika Cibulkova in the championship match of the Rogers Cup in Montreal.
Safina, seeded seventh, collected $196,900 after her 6-2, 6-1 victory.
The 22-year-old Russian, who now has eight titles overall and finished second to Ana Ivanovic in this year's French Open, ousted Belarussian Victoria Azarenka in the semifinals. Cibulkova advanced with an upset of 10th-seeded Marion Bartoli of France in the semis after stunning top-seeded Jelena Jankovic in the quarters.
The championship match was the first meeting between Safina and Cibulkova.
" I think my experience helped me a bit in the final," Safina said. "I'm sure Dominika's time will come soon."
