BRIDGEVIEW, Ill., Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Rookie Patrick Nyarko scored his first Major League Soccer goal Saturday to give the Chicago Fire a 1-0 victory over Chivas USA.
It was the third straight shutout for the Fire, which has a four-game unbeaten streak.
Nyarko scored the game's only goal in the 16th minute of his first Major League Soccer start.
He thought he had scored a couple minutes earlier. After John Thorrington took the ball away from Chivas USA defender Lawson Vaughn and dribbled through defenders, he relayed to Nyarko who fired home, but the goal was ruled offside.
Nyarko's goal snapped an almost 200-minute scoreless drought for the Fire, who were coming off back-to-back scoreless draws.
