Fudoh leads Women's British Open

BERKSHIRE, England, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- A 3-under-par 69 Saturday gave Japan's Yuri Fudoh the lead through 54 holes at the Women's British Open golf tournament in Berkshire, England.

The rookie's three-round total of 13-under 203 is one stroke better than second-round co-leader Ji-Yai Shin (70) of Korea.

A bogey at the 18th hole cost Shin a share of the lead for the second straight day.

Fudoh is a two-time winner on the LPGA Tour of Japan this season, while Shin's best career finish was sixth place at the 2007 U.S. Women's Open.

"Right now, I don't know if this is the real thing or not, so I hope that tomorrow I can play just like I did today," Fudoh said through an interpreter.

Japan's Ai Miyazato is third at 11-under 205 after her 4-under 68 Saturday.

At 10-under 206 is seven-time major champion Juli Inkster, 48, who is looking to become the oldest major winner ever. A 1-under 71 left her tied fourth place with 2007 U.S. Women's Open champion Cristie Kerr (70).

Retiring Annika Sorenstam shot 2-under 70 and her overall total, 2-under 214, left her tied with five others in 38th place.
